The automobile market in Turkey entered the new year with significant increases after 2020, which was affected by the pandemic. The March data we left behind surprised many by revealing the highest sales figures of the last 10 years. In an environment with such an increase in prices, we are also curious about the continuity of the picture, and a table with significant increases in April compared to the previous year welcomes us. The total market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey increased by 72.4 percent in the January-April (4 months) period of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 260,148. Automobile sales were 68.7 percent in the January-April period of 2021 compared to the previous year. While the light commercial vehicle market increased by 88.1 percent, it reached 55,309 units.

When we go down to the details of the table, we see the numbers that vary according to the criteria. For example, in April 2021, the passenger car and light commercial vehicle market increased by 132.4 percent compared to April 2020 and reached 61,488. In April 2021, automobile sales increased by 121.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 48,375 units, while the light commercial vehicle market increased by 183.1 percent to 13,113. When we look at the table from a broader picture such as the last 10 years, the decline is striking. In this context, the vehicle market decreased by 5.2% compared to the average 10-year April sales. The automobile market, compared to the average 10-year April sales, showed a decrease of 2.2 percent. On the other hand, we see that the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 14.9 percent compared to the average 10-year April sales.
